Innovation in Big Data Management – IBM’s Information on Demand

At IBM’s Information on Demand (IoD) conference, which convenes Nov. 3 – 7 in Las Vegas, the focus is on software and hardware advancements for managing information. Some of today’s most exciting technology innovations are taking place at the intersection where Big Data, business intelligence, and new database architectures meet up, and I always look forward to the IoD conference for the window it opens onto emerging technologies and new perspectives in the fast-evolving world of data management and analytics.

For more than 15+ years, IBM and Intel have worked closely together to optimize enterprise solutions built on IBM information management software running on servers powered by Intel Xeon processors. One of the areas where Intel and IBM have the greatest synergy is the joint engineering of IBM DB2* and Intel technologies to deliver dramatic performance gains and transform data management into useful business insights more quickly, all while lowering costs and power consumption.

In particular, we have seen remarkable gains in big data query performance using IBM DB2 pureScale* with BLU Acceleration running on the latest Intel Xeon processor E5 v2 family of microprocessors. Come to the Information Management keynote on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 11:30am - 12:45pm, delivered by Bob Picciano, general manager of IBM Information Management, and learn more about these new benchmarks. Pauline Nist (@panist), general manager for Enterprise Software Strategy for Intel’s Data Center Group, joins IBM’s Judy Huber and Scott Hawking on video to describe how IBM DB2 pureScale* with BLU Acceleration is optimized to utilize the cores and threads of the latest Intel Xeon processors and can leverage the Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) features of Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) for dramatic improvements in big data & traditional reporting and analytics, with near-linear scale-out efficiency for mission critical applications.

Intel is also participating in a number of panel discussions and tech sessions at IoD.
