Laying the Foundation for Business Success with a Software-Defined Infrastructure

By Scott Allen

What I enjoy about VMworld, which takes place in San Francisco Aug. 24-28, is how perfectly the show is balanced between technology and business innovation. There are plenty of high-tech fireworks, to be sure, but it’s in the service of furthering business goals and objectives. VMworld has become a show about the intersection of business and technology, and the dialogue between executives and technologists is exciting, and frequently inspiring.

Intel and VMware are long-time partners, and have collaborated for years to deliver innovative data center solutions that drive business results for enterprise organizations. We’ve reached a tipping point, where innovations in data center virtualization; cost-effective, cloud-based computing power; software as a service; mobility; and advanced control and security technologies combine to deliver a new standard for enterprise computing. This new architecture is based on a software-defined infrastructure, in which software helps control and optimize both on-premise data centers and hybrid clouds to increase availability, improve security and manageability, and reduce costs for truly agile, easily administered computing power.

Bottom line: If implemented correctly, a software-defined infrastructure should give you a competitive advantage by letting you process more transactions, help keep your machines running so your people are not sitting idle, and extract more information faster from the mountains of data your business is piling up daily.

Intel has teed up some thought-provoking sessions for VMworld—be sure to register early. Learn more about Intel and VMware’s co-developed data center innovations at these breakout sessions:

  • Deploying Secure Hybrid Cloud; Key Learnings and Solutions (11:30am-12:30pm, Aug. 26) Intel’s Raghu Yeluri, Chuck Brown, and Robin Drummond discuss new methods for appropriately securing critical business information across an enterprise’s compute resources, including hybrid cloud environments.

And…stop by the Intel booth, #1721, to take in a demo of such products as Intel® Solid State Drives and Intel® Security’s McAfee Server Security. You can also catch one of our Smart Talks, scheduled on the half-hour during exhibit hours, to learn the latest on not only Intel technologies but also the products offered by the wide number of vendors with whom Intel works. And while you’re at our booth, test your data center knowledge by playing The Ultimate Data Center Challenge. You may win an Intel® powered tablet or Intel® Solid-State Drive!

Please seek @TimIntel out at the conference as he tweets man-on-the-street impressions so you can exchange tweets, MTs & RTs. To learn more about Intel’s software-defined infrastructure technologies, follow us at @IntelITCenter & @TimIntel.
