UK-based Menzies Aviation wanted to protect its airline customers from operational disruption and raise efficiency by boosting the security and versatility of its IT infrastructure. The firm deployed virtualized Dell PowerEdge* R710 servers with Intel® Xeon® processors 5600 series, replicated across two data centers at separate locations.

Menzies was able to ensure business continuity with its mirrored, virtualized solution—with around 97 percent virtualization of operational systems and four times faster deployment. This virtual solution is about 60 percent cheaper than it would have been to purchase physical servers.

“We considered virtualization as a way to consolidate the environment and put an end to server sprawl,” explains Stephen Koller, executive vice president of IT for Menzies. “In addition, we wanted to improve flexibility with fast, cost-effective server deployment, while keeping downtime to a minimum. We also needed to implement an effective disaster recovery solution.”
