Dr. Michael McManus is the Director of Precision Medicine and a Principal Engineer at Intel. For 2019, Dr. McManus was appointed to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Artificial Intelligence Working Group.
Dr. McManus joined Intel from Knome where he was the Senior Vice President of Operations and was the designer of the knoSYS hardware appliance for processing genomic data as part of the genome interpretation process used in a clinical setting. Dr. McManus has a 30-year history in the scientific software and hardware market in roles ranging from R&D to sales, including business development, marketing, product management, and executive management. Before Intel, Dr. McManus worked at several start-ups including CambridgeSoft, AnVil Informatics, GenomeQuest, Integromics, and Knome, and two public companies, Eastman Kodak and Fujitsu Computer Systems.
Dr. McManus received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.
