It’s an exciting time for Intel, with the announcement of our work with IBM around its launch of IBM Cloud Satellite. This latest step in our four decades of collaboration with IBM reaches beyond defining enterprise IT to co-innovate optimized, cohesive solutions for managing today’s multifaceted cloud ecosystem.
This current phase of our work with IBM embraces an open ecosystem driving innovation for workloads running where you need them with performance and security. Both IBM Cloud Satellite and IBM Cloud for Telecommunications, which was launched in November, can run on Intel architecture across hybrid cloud configurations.

The true power of Intel and IBM is a modernized cloud stack powered by Intel architecture supporting:
1. IBM Cloud Satellite with Intel technologies
Intel supports IBM in delivering containerized apps and data with Intel technologies to help clients run IBM Cloud services in any environment—on any cloud, on premises or at the edge—via IBM Cloud Satellite. While today’s broadly varied cloud ecosystem presents management challenges, Intel and IBM can deliver integrated, modernized IT solutions. IBM Cloud Satellite, which can be run on Intel Xeon SP architecture, extends cloud services beyond public cloud to multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, and edge environments with consistent experience and performance.
“IBM Cloud Satellite extends services from the public cloud to any cloud, on premises or at the edge with speed, simplicity and consistency. When leveraged together with Intel’s performance and security focused infrastructure, clients can maximize infrastructure efficiency and application performance in any environment.”
-Jason McGee, IBM Fellow, VP and CTO, IBM Cloud Platform
2. Intel Technologies Commits to Join IBM Cloud for Telecommunications Ecosystem
In November, Intel committed to join IBM’s ecosystem of partners supporting the IBM Cloud for Telecommunications, an open, hybrid cloud architecture designed to accelerate business transformation with the power of edge and 5G and address the unique requirements of operators, partner ecosystems and their enterprise clients.
The IBM Cloud for Telecommunications is engineered to integrate advanced AI and automation processes at the edge and speeds services deployment and simultaneously reducing overall costs. With an open, container-based architecture managed as a service, designed so that operators and their providers will be able to easily integrate, automate and orchestrate how they run network and IT workloads in any environment—on any cloud, on premises or at the edge. The platform leverages IBM's encryption capabilities utilizing the industry’s highest level of cryptographic key encryption like Keep Your Own Key (KYOK), giving clients full control of their data.1
As with any great collaboration, the best is yet to come, and we believe that Intel is poised to explode with innovation as 5G proliferates.
Intel Provides the Architecture
IBM Cloud Satellite enables clients to run IBM Cloud services in any environment—on any cloud, on premises or at the edge—all delivered as a service. This flexibility will help bring cloud capabilities to where client data resides, in the environment of their choice, while focusing on consistency, user experience, and security.
Intel data center technologies across IBM Cloud and IBM Cloud Satellite support IBM in delivering software & services to the growing hybrid cloud ecosystem by helping to enable those services to run on Intel for consistent performance. IBM solutions on Intel can further advance cloud management with IBM Cloud Satellite.
With Intel-based IBM Cloud Satellite Infrastructure Service for on-prem workloads, clients can leverage the power and scalability of Intel Xeon processors end-to-end with fully managed infrastructure for public and private clouds.

The Fully Managed On-Prem Solution—on Xeon
Intel and IBM deliver new capabilities to run workloads in any environment—on any cloud, on premises or at the edge—with the power and scalability of IBM Cloud on Intel Xeon processors. Building on IBM Cloud Satellite, IBM Cloud Satellite Infrastructure Service is part of a fully-managed, on-prem solution. IBM Cloud Satellite Infrastructure Service can run on Xeon, delivering cloud performance on-prem.
1 Based on IBM Hyper Protect Crypto Service, the only public-cloud enabled FIPS 140-2 Level 4-certified Hardware Security Module (HSM). FIPS 140-2 Security Level 4 provides the highest level of security defined in this standard. At this security level, the physical security mechanisms provide a comprehensive envelope of protection around the cryptographic module with the intent of detecting and responding to all unauthorized attempts at physical access.
