Long-awaited 64-bit mobile computing is finally here! While 64-bit computing is nothing new, its effects on mobility will be significant. As Intel’s Julie Coppernoll described to PC World, the impacts 64-bit computing will have on mobile computing capabilities include “improvements in video performance, compression, decoding and other intensive computing tasks with a 64-bit chip and compatible OS. Mobile devices will also be able to pack more than 4GB of memory, which could provide performance improvements.”
64-bit capabilities allow for 64 bits of data to process at one time, rather than the traditional 32 bits – see a visual depiction of this processing increase in the infographic below:
