At VMworld® 2018 Europe* in Barcelona this week, industry experts across cloud, hyper-converged infrastructure, and virtualization are meeting to learn from one another and advance data center technology. At the show, our teams revealed our plans for the future of hybrid cloud.
As one of the first partners to support the Intel® Select Solutions for hybrid cloud, Intel and VMware offer two verified solutions to accelerate deployment of the hybrid cloud environment.
- Intel® Select Solutions for VMware vSAN*—Hyper-converged storage virtualization configurations that are optimized for peak performance.
- Intel® Select Solutions for VMware Cloud Foundation*—an integrated set of software-defined services for compute, storage, networking, security, and cloud management that allows enterprises to run traditional or containerized applications on a single platform.
Intel® Select Solutions for VMware are currently available from Lenovo, Supermicro, Quanta Cloud Technology, and Sugon, and coming soon from World Wide Technology and Inspur.*
As my colleague Andy Rudoff wrote following VMworld in Las Vegas, vSphere® will support Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory the first day it’s available. This includes features vSphere customers already utilize, such as running multiple workloads on a single physical machine, live migration of VMs across nodes, and support for Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory’s capacity and affordability. Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory’s up to 512GB per module size can enable two-socket server systems to support 6TB of memory, large enough for advanced analytics and SAS workloads that have been modified to take advantage of persistent memory.
We will be integrating Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory into our updates of Intel® Select Solutions with VMware in 2019. In addition, Intel® Select Solutions for VMware Cloud Foundation™ will be updated to support the recently announced VMware Cloud Foundation 3.5. We expect these refreshed Intel® Select Solutions for VMware to be available in 2019 as leading original equipment manufacturers adopt the new configurations. The VMware solutions also will be updated for the upcoming Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor (code-named Cascade Lake) to offer the best performance possible.
VMware has been an extraordinary partner for Intel over the years and I look forward to our continued collaborations to provide leading technology solutions to data-centric businesses around the world.
