Enterprises continue to invest in hybrid cloud solutions, harvesting the benefits of rapidly-deployable application containers, and a uniform software stack between their private and public cloud infrastructures. Today, at Red Hat Summit* in San Francisco, Red Hat* and Intel announced a new robust, high-performance solution for customers that want to accelerate their path to enterprise containers and hybrid cloud—the Intel® Select Solution for Red Hat OpenShift* Containers.
Red Hat OpenShift is a container application platform that brings Docker* and Kubernetes* to the enterprise. OpenShift lets you easily and quickly build, develop, and deploy applications in nearly any infrastructure, public or private. Containers give you the ability to leverage cloud architecture with your existing enterprise applications, as well as new cloud-native software. Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform architecture makes use of Docker to run containerized applications, and Kubernetes to orchestrate and manage containerized applications. It also uses Red Hat Ansible Automation for installation and management of the container platform, and other software components along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host as operating systems across different nodes.
Intel® Select Solutions are hardware and software “recipes” designed and tested by Intel to deliver high-performance and accelerate and simplify the IT evaluation and deployment process. Sold by a variety of system manufacturers and integrators, Intel® Select Solutions provide robust, ready-to-deploy solutions for many of today’s foundational data center workloads. With Intel® Select Solutions, we reduce uncertainty about the capabilities and level of performance you can expect, shortening the solution qualification time and allowing IT to focus on higher-level aspects of their qualification and test process. The goal is to get you up and running as quickly as possible by applying the workload optimization and validation expertise of Intel and the software providers.
Today’s announcement at Red Hat Summit showcases a platform-as-a-service solution that is optimized for performance, security and agility using a verified hardware configuration, and built using the Red Hat OpenShift architecture. The solution will be made available by leading systems manufacturers and integrators in the coming months—including Lenovo*, the first partner working to bring this solution to market.
